Overview

Government Degree College Banikhet was established on 16th August 2022. In just over two and a half years, the college has experienced remarkable growth and now ranks as the 4th largest college in Chamba district with a total student enrolment of 378, of which 80% are female students (session 2024–25).

Currently, the college offers a B.A. Programme with the following subjects:

• English

• Hindi

• Political Science

• History

• Economics

Following a joint inspection on 26th September 2023, 35 bighas of land were finalized for the construction of the new college building at Mohal RF Banikhet, Dhalog Panchayat. The FRA certificate has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner.

• Tree enumeration has been completed

• The building plan prepared by the Architect, HP PWD has been approved by the Director of Higher Education

• Forest clearance has been applied for via the Parivesh Portal (Government of India)

Affiliation and Registration

• B.A. 3rd Year: Temporary affiliation with Sardar Patel University, Mandi

• B.A. 1st & 2nd Year: Temporary affiliation with Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla

• Registered in the RME module of Himachal Pradesh University

• Registered in the Examination module of Himachal Pradesh University

• Registered on the GeM portal (Government e-Marketplace)

• Registered on the Manav Sampada portal (HP Government); Service book updates underway

• Registered with AISHE and has received the AISHE code

• UGC 12(B)/2(f) proposal submitted and under process

• NAAC accreditation is in the immediate pipeline

Student Support and Development

• Registered on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

  • Biometric authentication completed

  • 21 scholarship applications submitted by students under various central and state schemes (2023–24)

• A functional NSS unit is active

• Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities have commenced

• Successfully hosted a National Conference on
  “Economic Growth, Sustainable Development and Tribal Empowerment: Challenges and Opportunities in a Globalized Era”,
  organized by the Indian Economic Association in collaboration with the college on 17–18 March 2025

• College library includes a reading room, along with textbooks, reference materials, and journals

ICT Infrastructure

• ICT setup for students, teachers, and administration is under development

• Video conferencing facilities established and undergoing further upgrades

• Official website https://gdcbanikhet.ac.in is functional and being improved per UGC guidelines

• The college building is Wi-Fi enabled
